Interviews
« on: March 20, 2012, 04:08:45 pm »
Brief background, I have worked for the same WAH company for 4 years, there was a brief lay off when my department got outsourced but I was asked to come back in another position, was told they had enough work for me to do 35-40 hours/week so I took it. Well my schedule turned into a "flex" (on needed bases), I am not doing what I was initial brought back to so I have been on the hunt. With that said, fast forward to my subject.

I received an email today at 2:16pm for a temp job with the county TELLING ME they scheduled me for a phone interview tomorrow at 3:10pm so I respond that unfortunately with only a days notice I couldn't participate, that I would be available Friday as I have to work around my current employment and asked for a reschedule.

The lady writes back "We have a lot of interviews scheduled for tomorrow, if we do not get enough applicants for the assessments I will email you to reschedule.  If not, I encourage you to apply in the future."

What happened to asking people when would work best for them? I get that can get a little hairy as I am currently doing recruiting myself but come on a days notice, that is a bit much. Opinions?

As the woman who wrote to you implied, there are a lot of people applying for the same position these days.  This situation tends to give the employers somewhat of the upperhand as far as application quotas and initially vetting applicants goes.  Sounds like she was hinting to strike while the iron is hot.

I do a lot of hiring and expecting someone to be available on a days notice is somewhat disrespectful, not sure if you would have wanted to work there anyway. If time was of the essence they could have said something to the effect "sorry for the short notice but if you are interested we would need you for an interview tomorrow".

@Falcon9 considering it was a temp position I am not too overly worried about it, just frustrated by how they handled it.

@Alina6 I agree probably didn't need to be employed by them anyway, if they're that disorganized to only give people a days notice, imagine the bigger mess they have.

@joyroos18 wouldn't that be awesome lol I'll be on the lookout ;)

Lots of people applying for those these days too, (especially if there's a chance of a temporary position leading to a permenent one).  I can understand your frustration with their apparent abruptness, however.

UPDATE!!! She emailed today asking to interview me tomorrow, guess they didn't get enough applicants. Wonder if the days notice had much to do with it!

Sorry I never replied, I did do the phone interview, got asked to go in to do the behav/computer tests and totally rocked them. I had an interview in front of a panel last week and within a few days was called back and offered another one of their temp jobs. The funny part of it is the person that got the job I actually interviewed for was my cousin. So it is official I am leaving C10, my current work at home employer but after all our ups and downs it will be nice to move on!

Generally, moving on is good, (no matter how life-disturbing the process is).  I'm not sure if you meant that you're still looking for another position or, took the temp one however, may fortune smile upon your efforts.

I took the other temp one they offered me. Hopefully during that time they will realize I'm a great asset and keep me on full time
