How much did you pay the tax preparer to file your tax return for your filing status? I will be filing my income tax before the deadline so I am wondering what the average cost is tax preparers are charging for their service.

We go to the senior center in our area and it is done for free. So check around you might get the same offer.

We used to have very complicated returns, both state and federal. In addition to income tax we had small business expenses and deductions, plus income and expenses from owning a small apartment house. Because there was a lot and it was too complicated for us, we wound up paying H&R about $300 each year.

This year our return was simple so we did it ourselves with TurboTax. Both state and federal came to about $60 in fees.
