Posting to contribute VERSUS posting just for money...
« on: February 01, 2012, 07:24:00 pm »
What do you guys feel about people posting "not as heartful" topics in the discussion?

I know 99% of us are here to earn that $3 per month bonus, but don't you think members should AT LEAST be sincere about posting and not randomly "trashing" the discussion board just to quickly earn $3? Don't you think people should take the time to post MEANINGFUL messages and advice? I mean... that's what a discussion board is about... right??

That's just how I feel... you may have other opinions, but this discussion board is open to ALL opinions so hereby I post my opinion...

I only post on the forums when I actually have something to say.  I will get my number of posts in anyways so no need to try to nail it in one shot.

I agree, i'm still fairly new to FC, but there are many topics on the forum that are just sort of irritating and honestly, pretty "middle school" like.
I do however enjoy the reading and responding to the ones where people are asking for an opinion or second thought,
and there are even some of the goofy ones that I enjoy just because they relate to my life... i'm guilty of that!

That's why I usually only respond to topics with a more serious discussion rather than the posts like "Vanilla or chocolate ice cream?"  :P Those meaningless topics seem to be more about getting the 30 posts in vs actually talking with people and having a true discussion.

I could care less about what other people do.  I can ignore or choose to respond to the topics that I want.  If they want to post whatever they want that's their business.  I can only worry about what I do.  I can't control anyone else and I can't judge what their intentions are.

The problem is, who would determine whether a post is "Just for the money" or really a contribution? I know there is an overabundance of posts about favorite this or that, but I'm sure not all of them are just started to get the 30-post bonus. People with certain interests like to see who else shares the same interests. And it gives us the opportunity to chime in with our favorites.

I post to get my $3 bonus, but I enjoy it and I end up making 50-60 posts per month.  There are some good conversations definitely worth contributing to.

I think the biggest issue is people that start numerous pointless posts one after another just for credit.

I post mainly for the $3.  That being said, I spend at least as much time reading as posting because I'm looking for interesting threads and there are times when that's a real challenge.   However, this is the 6th of the month and I believe this would be about 20 posts this month.  I won't check my numbers until I'm finished with all my posting.

I post to contribute-but if there's a fun topic-I'll post. I don't really think of those as counting towards my posting credits for the month as I know everything is checked and my answer of "Pepsi" isn't going to be seen as helpful to anyone.

We are all here to make the $3 a month, but when people create topics that require only a few words to answer, what are you supposed to do?

I agree I could care less what others do I only chime in on things that interest me..And I do recipes monthly and I am sure some see that as oh shes trying to get her 3 bucks which is not the case I have a following for my recipes and they like them posted on there own thread for easier access to use..I post when I have something I feel like sharing or exciting or if I have a question about something silly..So does that make me a type who does it for the bonus I do not feel as if it does.. :peace:

The way I see it, if someone posts those "this vs that" questions and others respond, they are contributing to ongoing discussions.  If the FC staff feels otherwise, then they would not count those posts they feel do not qualify as a "contributing" post.  I respond to some of them and try to add a little extra to my choice to make my response a little more interesting.

The thing that annoys me the most about those "this vs that" topics are the number of duplicates out there.  Those I feel just clutter the board.  If the topic exists, just add your response to it to bring it back to the top vs creating another one.  If the topic is on page 30, sure...but if the topic is on page 3, just add the post.  I think there was one time where there were 3 or 4 "subway vs quiznos" topics going in the top 5 pages at once.  Those are the situations that annoy me.  When those occur (and it's not too often that happens), I try to only post my response in one of those topics.
