He was a coward and needs to be charges with 29 counts of manslaughter for the joy ride he authorized.

This story is just awful. I feel sorry for every passenger aboard. It clearly was a complete nightmare, having no one direct the madness that was happening without the captain being there to do his job. Very scary

He doesn't have to go down with the ship but he will have to live with himself and what he did. But, he will not be the only one to suffer unfortunately his family will also have to live down what he did.

help... I've fallen and I can't get up.  Oh Da#n, who are those ar2eholes calling me to get back to the ship.  Can't they see I fell, and I need help.  Tell them to rescue the others by themselves.  hell, I'm only the captain of the  sinking ship.  Why is it my fault?

I think this is more of a life or death situation. We as humans, are hard wired to take survival first. If you see someone get shot by a madman on the street, you are not going to go and stop him, you are going to run. This is the same thing here, he wanted to live and there is no problem with that. That's how evolution goes, people who survive.... survive. Although the fact he was in shallow water is pretty funny.

You are ignoring the fact that some people have enough courage to overcome the survival instinct and help other people. Obviously the captain had no courage. When he became a captain he took upon himself the responsibility for the lives of his passengers, and he should have been prepared to face possible disaster.
