avg means average to me.

But when I googled it, I discovered that AVG is also a brand name for an anti-virus software.
(39.95 for the 2012 download)

Never heard of it before, so I can't tell you how good it is.

Windows has a free anti-virus software that is supposed to be good.  Haven't tried that, yet.
I used Norton and McAfee.

I don't know what posts you are talking about, but I do know that when I mention AVG, I am talking about the anti-virus program. I have the free version on my computer, they seem to be pretty good and I've used them for years. You can get the paid version if you like, but I found it pretty annoying with all the warning pop-ups, so I just went back to the free version. It is a good basic anti-virus program.

AVG is an anti-virus software.  They also have an AVG PC tune-up program.

I used a free AVG program for a few years but my new computer came last year with a free Microsoft anti virus program so now that's what I use.  It seems to work great too.

AVG is a antivirus program some people like it but I use Vipre and have had no problems with viruses since.  Got 2 years for as many computers as I want for $89.99 this is best ever.  Hope it helps.
