What’s the first thing personalize when you get a new computer?

 When I get a new computer I immediately change the color.  Generally the ones I get are already setup with a drab grey color so that’s the very first thing I change.  I worry about changing the screensaver and background later.  If I can’t stand the color I’m looking at there’s no way I’m gonna change anything but that first.  I usually change the type last.  I prefer everything in times new roman and they never give you the default type as times new roman.

The first thing I change is the start-up programs (esp those not easily accessed in the Startup folder). Usually when I get a new computer, the manufacturer loads all these trial-version software to get you to but the full deal (like McAffee AV), but I may have my own software that I want to use instead (eg Norton/Symantec AV), or it may be a product that I don't ever plan on using and so I don't need it using up processing speed for a worthless ad. I'll also load some AV protection and make sure everything is updated to current levels (not just MS stuff, but also Adobe reader, Flash, Java, web browser, etc.). Finally I'll also load various substitute programs for the default MS ones: Firefox instead of IE, Media Monkey instead of Windows Media Player, TextPad instead of notepad, etc.). The desktop theme, background picture, and screen saver are much further down on my list; I guess those don't really matter for me too much (although I do tend to change to a darker theme / background to reduce eye-strain if I am using the computer for work or plan on using it for extended periods of time. I also sometimes play around with the sounds but again something not too important for me...

I usually change the wallpaper first, as that is quick and easy. Then I go through all the default programs, and get rid of the ones I don't need. When I first connect to the internet, I get AVG antivirus first, then I start downloading other programs that I need, like Firefox and Open Office.

First thing I do is download Avast! Antivirus, then Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware, then Google Chrome (or skip this step if the computer came with Firefox, as it's also a good browser), then an Adblocker extension.

Further down I make up a list of programs but that list depends entirely on how much memory the computer has, how much time I plan on spending on it, and what I plan on using it for.

I never bother with changing backgrounds or colors, never even crosses my mind, since I hardly see the desktop anyways .
Guess that's why it's almost always such a cluttered mess on my comps
And the screensaver is usually turned off if I ever use the computer for watching media.

The wallpaper! Usually with whatever ship I'm most into at the moment! Doctor/Rose Barney/Robin or my beloved Ron/Hermione! Then I gut the per-installed programs!

I want to change the screen saver to make my desktop nice as I want.  And the rest of it the way I like.  I want to set the side and how I want the colors to look last.

the very first thing i  personalize when i get a new computer is the cursor... i hate looking at that boring arrow! lol

I always change the desktop photo first. Sometimes I like to use my own, but the current one i have is from the computer.

I don’t remember what I’ve done when I got my new laptop. Surely I would change the background wallpaper.

The first thing I do is to "Name" my computer, then I put in wallpaper that I like to look at and other fun things!!!
