Job Interview
« on: September 19, 2011, 09:06:55 am »
I had a job interview about 3 weeks ago and I was supposed to have received a call from them the week of Labor Day. I still have not heard anything (which I am assuming means no job). She said they probably could not afford me, but would crunch some numbers and let me know. I was wondering what you all thought was the proper time frame of professional courtesy before I should call them back and ask what is going on?

I would say it is ok to call them now. You don't want to wait to long and make them thing you're not serious about the position. Good luck!

I would call, and check and let them know you are still interested.

for One it probably means they didnt want you, and may have forgotten already, However the keep calling (be professional when talking to the employer) and asking about it.. Don't stop untill they actually say NO.. This shows determination and responsibility. Plus if they are busy, they wont forget about you..

99% of the time, if you ask how long until they make a decision and you don't hear by then, it means no job. I have been on a half dozen interviews (obviously still no job), and only one had the courtesy to shoot me a quick email letting me know they went with someone else.

I really didn't figure I would get the job since she was honest from the beginning saying they probably could not afford me. I am just really disappointed they did not take the time to call or e-mail, especially because I am in a small town and know this lady through a few personal connections. I appreciate yal's input and plan on calling her this week. Thanks!

If it's after two weeks, I would definitely call them back.

I have always been told to call until they see you. It annoys the HR, but you get seen...and with allready showing such a high interest in the position and consistancy, it eventually impresses them. (thats how I got hired at JC Penny's) The HR bumped me to the top of the interview list b/c I would not stop calling. Because I was so consistant, he knew he could count on me.

I don't have any advice because i've never had a job interview ever in my life. It's one of the things that sounds scary to me.

If it has been that long since she said she would contact you, I think now is a perfect time for you to contact her.

I'm in agreement.  You've waiting a reasonable amount of time.  It's time to call.  One thing to keep in mind regarding why she hasn't gotten back to you...it is possible that something else has gotten in the way of her getting back to you (family emergency, illness, , etc.).  Best of luck!
