how you look for job?

I want to go to work, but I didn't find a job suit for me,  I usually use internet, I like snagAjob.com, also I use craiglist.org, but it is like the second web, some of the job cheating people. since I do not have a car, so I want to find a job not far from my home. we are lack of money, so I really want to find a job.

I check my postings daily with Indeed, Jobunga, Career Builder,Snag a Job, and Local job listings. I have some places as UCube, Career Builder, on Facebook,but seldom find jobs in my area. I also check the local newspaper and Job Service online.I have copies of my resume in my car in case I hear of anything while I'm out. I was hired at a retail center but have to wait until the store gets busier, so who knows when that will be. So for now I try and make money online.

Walk around your neighborhood and go door to door of different businesses and ask if they are hiring.  I'm sure they still have classifieds in the newspapers so check that out too.

I would defintly not trust the internet because i have applied to many places on snag a job or things like that and then checked and that company isnt even hiring i dont know how often they update those and going and talking face to face is a lot better they have a face to match with the application and you can ask to talk to the manager but i know now a days you go and see if they are hiring and aply half the time they make you go home and apply anyways buy good luck i am in your position but i have a car. Try babysitting and or dog sitting things like that too or maybe park districts

As a retired manager, allow me to give you and everyone else that may be interested a couple pointers.

1.  Dress like you live on this planet!  Don't show up, even to just fill out an application, looking like you just rolled off the turnip truck, that means clean shirt, if you must wear jeans make sure they are clean, no frayed cutoffs or baggy gang pants hanging half way down your butt.

2. Comb your hair.

3. Be courteous to the reception clerk or whoever, remember you want to work for them, not the other way around.

4. Dont be afraid to blow your own horn, let them know what you are honestly good at.

5. Leave your dog at home.

That may sound an obvious list, but you'd be surprised how people show up sometimes.

I have used Snagajob and Monster but I can't really beat the classified section of the newspaper. Probably the most up to date and I have gotten the most interviews from those. My current job however I did discover through Snagajob so you just never know.

Great tips above especially the one about the receptionist. Basically treat the receptionist as if you are already interviewing because you can be sure that the interviewer will hear if you are rude or fidgeting or talking on your cell while waiting. The receptionist is your FIRST IMPRESSION to the company, not the interviewer!

In addition to what others have mentioned, try to have some kind of resume typed up.  If you are just starting out, include activities/clubs you participate in, or if you did babysitting, include that.  If you've had previous employment, include that instead.

Since transportation is an issue, walk or take the bus to locations where you'd be able to get to the job easily, because once you get the job, that will be how you get there, and it should be timely and reliable.  I found to get a job (not necessarily a career), in person applications worked better - typically stores or restaurants may have signs they are hiring, then fill out the applications.  May want to consider things like restaurant cleaning crew for more upscale restaurants or hotel/motel cleaning crew if there are any of those nearby.

When filling out an application - like was mentioned above, dress clean and be well groomed (bath, brush teeth, comb hair).  When you ask for the application, be pleasant and smile.  When you shake someone's hand, have a firm grip - not a wet noodle nor a vice grip.  "In person" job hunting is a great opportunity for you to sell yourself - so be honest and confident, even if you may not feel it - the confidence and pleasant attitude in person goes much farther than 100 emailed applications.

Or they hire you for a job and then forget to tell about the "starter kit" or "training package" you have to buy.

I go on the internet and look  for a jpb and if I see a sign somewhere when I am out I will go in and get an application.

There are a lot of different websites to check, monster, snag a job or craigslist. You can check the classifieds for your local paper too either in the paper or online sometimes too  Do a search online for more sites too, I know there are special sites for particular job fields as well

Since you don't have a car, I would walk to the local stores in your area and apply.
