How do you keep neighbors out of your new pool?

How do you keep neighbors out of your new pool? I know that I am going to be bombarded with pleas to use my new (small) above ground pool. I do not want to share  , but am more concerned about accidents and home owners insurance, injury, and damage, etc. I have a fenced and locked gate yard, but still want advice to ensure people keep out and what to saay to people when they ask if they can use it. Any thoughts?

Just said no I don't want you to swim in my pool when I am not there.  I can't be held responsible if something happens to you.

I agree, you just gave to explain the insurance/damage angle.  I don't blame you for not wanting to share, it's no fun at all when people decide your yard is a public park.

I'm guessing they only do this when you are not home? Maybe see if another neighbor can keep an eye then have them call the cops, trespassing tickets may scare um

If you have no desire to allow neighbors to use your pool, you have every right to refuse them access to it. You also do not have to explain to anyone why you won't let them. They really shouldn't even be asking you, that's quite rude to do so (sure, they asked permission but that's not the point). If you were to invite them and/or tell them they can anytime but they first have to ask (& you have to be home) then that's also up to you. If you have kids & they are wanting their friends from the neighborhood to come join them, you could do what others I've known in the past to do, and that's have the parents of the kids sign a "contract" that releases you of any & all liability as well as protect your property (parents held accountable) in the instance that their kid should cause any damage to your property. Keeping people out while you're away is different story. Hopefully that won't be a problem for you though. If it is, having a neighbor you can trust keep an eye out is a good idea but you don't want everyone to know who (if anyone) is doing so because then they'll find a way around that too. Good luck!

[ :thumbsup:I understand exactly how you feel. People just want the pleasure of playing and swimming in your new pool. They don't think about the responsibility that comes with it. If you have children I would invite their friends w/supervision, any of your friends, however I would tell the neighbors quite frankly I don't want my privacy disturbed like that and no you cannot use the pool. I would have the people who installed the pool send you some business cards and I would distribute them. A pool is not a toy. Are they going to help clean it or upkeep it? No!/quote]

 You should definitly have some type of security for your home to prevent these people from going into your pool. I think maybe set up a camera, or have a trusted neighbor watch so they can call the cops if trespassing occurs.

You could post a guard 24/7, but that might get expensive after while.  How about just hanging out yourself?  You know, sit outside in a lawn chair with a shot gun across your lap.  Or, better yet, install and electric fence around the pool (just warn your kids first!)... good luck!
