If you were using PAYPAL, you could depend on the payment to be in your account (assuming it's approved) on or before  5/20.

With direct deposit, it may be sent by FC on or before 5/20 (like PAYPAL), but every bank has it's own procedures so it may take another day or two before it shows up in your bank account as usable money. 

I used direct deposit once; no problems, but it was difficult for me to remember when it was coming in and checking my acct daily was too much of a bother so I stick with PAYPAL.  They send me an email and I let it accumulate and then send money to my bank account (free) periodically (which does take several days to be processed)  or use the PAYPAL balance to buy things online.

I do direct deposit and don't have any problems.   It is usually showing pending by the 20th of the month and I have it to actually spend the next couple of days.

I did direct deposit and I receive my money May 20th also it's still pending so I pray everything will work out ok...
