Gun Laws
« on: January 11, 2011, 02:53:03 pm »
The news is reporting that the person charged with the shootings in Arizona purchased the gun legally.  Do you think that gun laws should be more strict?

This particular incident does not have anything to do with the current gun laws.  This nut would have gotten a weapon legally or il-legally to complete his mission in life.  If he obtained the weapon legally, I don't see a problem with it.  If he met the Arizona gun reguirements, then so be it.  It probably means that all of his background was checked and he was legally allowed to buy one.  He never had a mental problem that was documented anywhere, and thus he would have been allowed to buy the weapon.

This particular person was under the radar of his parents as far as having mental problems, unfortunately, he was able to get a gun legally, and carry out his dillussional thoughts to harm others. Its pretty tragic.  Gun control is not going to fix it.

gun laws don't keep criminals from getting or using guns we have to teach children how to settle disputes with conversation or mediation rather than just grabbing a gun and go shoot someone.

There are so many facets to this subject it is hard to qualify all the issues. Our family has guns used for hunting and no one should be not permitted to do so. We are seeing gun crimes increase in cities all over our country putting you and I at risk. I believe people have the right to legally own and use guns. My problem is with all the illegal guns that are in the hands of those seeking to rob, intimidate or kill--for drugs, or whatever. I don't have the answer to these problems, but I hope serious discussion ensues. The young man in AZ bought his gun legally--in part because the military (he was rejected from signing up b/c drug problems) did not communicate that to the FBI so that he would not legally be allowed to buy that gun.

Gun laws should be more strict in the state of Tennessee, where there are virtually no laws.  You can obtain a pistol or a gun with no background check. I'm not fond of guns, that's why I carry a tazer if necessary for protection. I am not aware of the laws of the other states.

Strict gun laws will not stop those looking to do illegal acts...plain and simple.  :BangHead:

No.  If a person is going to do a crime, he/she will find a way.  Guns don't kill people, people do.
Have a wonderful day!

No matter how strict the gun laws are, the criminals will find a way to get their guns and the rest of us will suffer.

I'm glad to see that there are several smart people on here that realize that more gun control doesn't equal less gun crime. There has to be more criminal control, and more open communication to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally unbalanced. More laws won't stop criminals, who are intending to break the law anyway. It is really sick and tragic that the deaths of those people are the cause for politicians to push their agendas at the expense of American freedom. There was no indication that that madman had ever even heard of Sarah Palin, yet right away the Democrats blamed her for inciting the shooter to commit murder. And they say the Republicans are fear-mongerers?

Texas and Alaska have the most relaxed gun laws. Alaska on the other had everybody has a gun or guns due to the  fact they dont have to have a license.
