US Supreme Court Ruling yesterday

Did anyone else see the news yesterday where the Supreme Court ruled that the Westboro church could hatefully protest fallen soldiers funerals. Their reasoning is God has forsaken the US because we tolerate homosexuals. Can someone explain to me what that has to do with a fallen soldiers funeral? How is it that soldiers' and his family's fault?
