Gmail and cloud computing.

I see hundreds, perhaps thousands of gmail users have seen their gmail accounts wiped clean. That is the biggest danger of relying totally on an offsite system to store valuable information. It appears we are moving ever closer to 100% "cloud" storage and computing. One day all of our apps and files will be stored on someone elses server.

Have any of you lost your gmail accounts ?

Any thoughts on the "cloud" ?

Well, I use Gmail for everything but then again I have a 16 char password with upper, lower, special, number and change it every 30 days.

I also only log into gmail from my own computer that I know is secure and virus free.

That said, a lot of computer problems can easily be avoided if people use common sense in not clicking on things, opening sketchy emails, keeping your virus and spyware deffinitions up to date.

After seeing this message, I am thinking about this. I use gmail a lot and even the office systems and outside also. I am not sure how safe is it. I thought that google will take care of virus. And about cloud computing I am hearing for the first time

I have though about this before.  I use hotmail as my primary email the one my friends and family use to email me and I have about 4 gmail accounts for my online stuff.  I thought what would happen if I lost all my personal emails that I've had in my account for years from people that are important to me?  It would really suck but in the grand scheme of life it would not devastate my life and health but it makes me think I should save those emails that are important to me so maybe I will do it soon.

So make a copy of it to disc of the files you have saved in any files you have for you email accounts thats what I do.

I have dozens of Gmail accounts and never had a problem. Of course I only see email as a communication tool, so if it goes away I don't think it would end my life. I don't archive voice mails either and it's about the same thing.

GoogleVoice is great if you're looking for a much more secure way to give out a phone number without giving out a real phone number.

I just link it to a regular phone and then I don't need to give out my actual celphone number.

I have never had an issue with gmail or any other Google product, but then again I don't usually entrust anything of importance to electronic storage either. So I guess I have been lucky

I have quite a bit of gmail accounts and have not had a problem with as of yet. I have worked via Google docs and transferred work via Google docs it is pretty neat, have not had a problem. I also store files on Google docs and it's still there.

Old Buddy....In the past I think I've heard you mention Team Viewer.  I have Windows7 on my desktop and XP on my netbook.  If I install Team Viewer on my desktop will it be a problem to open forum cash on my XP if I'm away from home?  If you can't help maybe someone else knows the answer.  Thanks Linda

You can test it right after you install, just try it out. I have run it on XP and Linux with no major problems.
