College Graduation
« on: December 17, 2010, 08:13:37 am »
I am graduating from college this month and cannot decide if I want to walk the stage or not. I am not really involved with the school because I focus so heavily on my studies to keep scholarships and work too. Plus, buying the gown and cords can really add up. The reason I would walk is for my family. I know they would love to see it, and me for that matter, but they want me to do what makes me happy. It's not that I don't want to, I just can't really see the point. I have never been so impartial on a subject. Any advice?

I think if you're indifferent but your family would want it, then you should do it. If you were opposed, then no matter how much they wanted it I'd say no - but if you're neutral you might as well do it to make them happy.

Unless you and your family don't get along, haha! But it doesn't sound like that's the case. So, I say go for it. (And if it's too much to pay and they're the ones who want to see you walk, well, you could try asking for a little help, haha.)

I say walk the stage. It is good to sometimes focus and celebrate the cornerstones in life. You deserve the applause!

Yes, you should do it.  Congratulations!!  Several years ago my daughter and I had graduation scheduled for the same day.  I was to receive my Associates Degree and she a Bachelor's Degree with a double major.  I, of course, opted to go to her graduation, but if it had been a different day, I would have walked for mine.  I was not able to go to college out of high school, and I was in my 60's when I got my college diploma.  It was a lifelong dream.  I still would like to get my Bachelor's.  Maybe I will get it by the time I am 90.  Then I will certainly walk - or go across the stage in my wheelchair.  :)

You really need to do what you think is best for yourself.  But I remember when I graduated and didn't want to go I did it for my parents and when I was done I was glade that I did because it was something they talk about all the time and to look back at the pictures I see how happy they were that day.  And it is something that you can't get a redue on

I was really indifferent to walk for my college graduation partly because I was concerned how my divorced parents would act sitting together.  I didn't care I did all that during my high school graduation so it's not like I didn't know what it was like.  In the end I did walk and my parents didn't fight.  We rented our gowns.

about your comment about renting an gown.  I bet you can due that because you can rent everything else another thing that you could try would be if you contact admin.  and see if it is possible to post something either on a board or on the internet or one of the social medias asking to borrow the gown.
