Signing up was a ridiculous effort.
« on: November 26, 2010, 05:32:52 pm »
I found it appalling how I was unable to use any of my normal e-mail addresses; not just personal, but school and work-related, simply because my name contained "profanity". Yes, my FIRST name.  Yet I was allowed to sign up with it, and it worked for the PayPal entry.  Not only that, but one of the ones that didn't contain my name wasn't "valid", because your system wasn't able to recognise its domain. Creating a new e-mail address solely for this purpose was nothing short of an annoyance. Anyway, I doubt this is the first time that this has occurred and I really think it's time for an update. Thanks.

Most people create a new email address that's solely used for FC anyway.

I removed the word filter that was causing you trouble.  As for the domain rejection, I'm not sure exactly what happened there, but the system is configured to reject particular domains which we have trouble delivering to, as well as common typos and temporary email services like mailinator.  If you enter a valid but never-before-seen email domain, it should be accepted by the system.  You should open a support ticket to follow up on this and provide the email addresses with which you had trouble, so we can investigate further.

The domain name was registered at live.ca, which is the Canadian equivalent to live.com. It's essentially the new "hotmail.com".

Thanks for following up.  You should now be able to use your live.ca account (if you want to).

The system was filtering out .ca email domains (a filter that was setup before we expanded to Canada).  We've only been taking Canadian users for a short time, so we're still ironing out a few wrinkles here and there.  I do appreciate your reporting this and thank you for your patience.
