Walking
« on: July 15, 2010, 06:43:26 am »
I try to walk everyday for exercise.  When it rains should get on my elliptical but for some reason I can't make may self do it.  What can I use for motivation.  I guess it is just so boring .  I don't have a tv near and I can't seem to read while doing it.  I just get too bored.

Try some of your favorite music, but out of all your music, listen to the faster songs.

I listen to my iPod. If music doesn't keep you interesting can you read a book or listen to a podcast or something?

I find working out on machines is SUPER boring. I always find walking/running outside is much more interesting.

The motivation that I use everyday is the one I see if I go to a buffet and see all the obese people running to the table as if pigs to the trough.  That keeps it all in check for me and motivates me to continue cycling, eating right and watching my calories.  I don't want to join the ranks of the OBESE, HYPERTENSIVE AND DIABETIC Americans that are on disability and cannot work any longer because of their health...a health that they could have managed if they had coveted it so.

Here's my motivation for walking one half hour everyday, six days a week.

1)  I've lost 32 lbs in three months

2)  I want to be healthy enough to see my great grandchildren.

I find that an ipod with some great 80's rock music is just what i need to get motivated to exercise.

When I want to burn extra calories I click my mouse faster. Most gyms have TV's to watch while walking and cycling now. Have a laptop ? Can you complete surveys while on your treadmill ?

When I'm watching tv i do simple things like crunches or squats or yoga. its easy to stay distracted that way while still exercising

Thanks for all the input.  The heat is my biggest enemy right now.  My eliptical is in the HOT garage and it is equally as hot outside by the time I get up in the morning.  I'm a little depressed too so I'm sure that doesn't help with the motivation.

I try to do it when I can. But some days I am too tired or too busy to do it. I really need to do it more. Some people say that being too busy is an excuse. But sometimes you need to just unwind.

I understand you completely.
