Roomates?!
« on: March 08, 2010, 10:19:52 am »
Are all roomates nice at first then become horrible later??? I find this very hard to believe its not bc all my roomates tend to be the same way. She says i sleep all the time and dont clean, but most of the mess is hers. I find this very odd. I want to live alone. Oh well........Are roomate good, bad, horrible, nice then mean, just nice, or just plain mean?

i have had both extremes- good and bad. when i was a freshman in college i got a roommate that i had never met before. at first she seemed okay. then classes started and i found out that just how much of a spoiled brat she was. i think her parents just sent her to college to give her something to do. i could tell she came from money because of the designer clothes she wore. not to mention the large amounts of money she would spend at the mall without blinking an eye. it kinda made me mad because i was working my way through college living off of ramen noodles and and and cheese.  the worst thing about it was that she NEVER went to class, spent all afternoon watching soaps and then at night when i would come home to study and hit the hay, she would be blasting the radio and staying up late. it was definitely not a good match. when mid terms came along and we went on winter break, i prayed the entire time that she had flunked out and wouldn't be coming back for the second semester. when she came back, i vowed that the next year i was going to live alone!!!! my sophomore year i got my wish. i had a double single in the dorms and life was better. i ended up making friends with a girl on my floor and we hung out a lot. we became really great friends and we ended up becoming roommates our junior year. i was a bit nervous because i was still gun shy from my freshman year-- but in the end, it worked out great. we both had to work through school and we both liked alot of the same things.she went to class everyday and studied at night.  i guess you have to really get to know your roommate before you decide to move in together!!!!

Roomates never ever worked out for me.  It is very hard to live with roomates.  You really have to find one that you are very compatible with so there is no friction between you.  I had one roomate that used to have every light on in the house and this is during the day.  They used to feed my dog all the time without me knowing and then I used to feed him also.  I was missing alot of things and never thought it was my roomate but it was because when she left I found all my missing stuff hidden in the corner of the closet she used.  Then after all that we could not remain friends.  I've had other roomates after that and they didn't work either.   :star: :star: :star:

I've had ok roommates up until last year.  This last 6 months has been hell because I am suing one of my roommates (she was also on the lease) she bounced all the rent checks and took money out of an account that was only for rent and bills to spend on other things.  Because of her I lost thousands of dollars.  She said she will pay me back but I'm not counting on seeing that money ever again.  After this experience I will never have roommates again.  I am so glad the lease is up the end of this month.

It is typical.  Roommates are great at first, then just start to annoy the hell out of you.  That is the best way to ruin a friendship.  Longest you should EVER have a roommate is 6 months.  But even that is too long IMHO.

Well, this is my first year I'm living with a roommate. But its' been great so far. Hopefully nothing like what you guys described will happen because we're getting along really well. I really enjoy having him as my roommate. We share the same faith so it's really cool.

I have had my friends as roommates. That has its good and bad points. You can resent each other and ruin your friendship. Or you can have a great time with your best friend every day.

I had the worst experience with the one friend I roomed with. I paid for half the bills. I had a phone line in my name and she had one in hers. She had a son who was 5 at the time. Every month she would ask if I could pay her half of the rent because she couldn't. Well, I always said yes even though she made twice as much as me. Her parents paid her car insurance, bought her kid clothes, paid car payments, and sometimes the electric bill. I would buy my food and she would buy hers. She would let her son eat my food. She let her son throw knives in the house. Even made him a target! He would throw little porcelain figurines. When I left, she got mad at me because I wouldn't pay her half of the rent for that month. She told me she was going to get evicted. Then she tried start a fist fight with me. It was horrible. It was bad to lose a friend that way.

I typically have no problems with my roommates when I lived out on my own.  I get along with them very well. :peace:

I'm very independent, but I'd want a roomate just for the fact that I don't like being alone at night! EVERYONE that becomes your roomie is going to have flaws that irritate you, but you just need to decide your limits and tolerate the fact that they'll annoy you sometimes. You win some, you lose some.

I have way too many roommates. They sometimes like to jip you out of your rent that is due. They sometimes like to think that they run the house when they dont.

Roomates can be nice and not. I think typically when u first meet your roomate they willl be nice but once u leave with them for 6 mos that is when u see there true colors. My first roomate was nice at first but she turned ugle....she had a daughter n made a mess and excepted me to clean it up. I think the only good thing about living with her was we split the bills...so i saved a lot of money. My next roomate was very nice I like living with her.
