Title: Anyone else concerned?
Post by: rhiannon_aka_rearea on November 06, 2007, 12:45:16 am
Im new here, but I was wondering if anyone else is concerned about giving out thier home address and phone # ? I worry about getting alot of junk mail through my home address and getting unwanted telemarketing phone calls. Has anyone had this problem yet?
If it wasnt for that I would feel so much more comfortable completing all these offers.

To avoid telemarketing calls. Join at PrivatePhone.com - It's a free program that gives you your own private number to supply to these surveys and stuff. Everyone does that to avoid the calls.

as far as junk mail to your house, you won't get any. I never got any and I've been doing this for many months.

I went to the privatephone website and it says it is going to be discontinued in December and they don't seem to be accepting any new clients. Any suggestions so I don't have to use my home or cell phone number to complete offers?

I also have a number set up with AIM.  You can get one at www.aim.com, sometimes there is an issue getting a local area code.  Another one I noticed in the forum is  www.laservoicemail.com.  Haven't tried that one yet, but probably will be.

do a google on private phones and voice mails. also get a gmail email account so your reg email don't get junked to death. as far as your home addy. nothing can do there. as you have to used your legit info.
also same as the others. i've been on this site and been doing gpt sites for about a year and have only ever gotton one thing in the mail. and can't say it was from any offer i did ether as it was one of those send a buck make millions things that i used to get a ton of years ago. so you should be good to go with the private phone and gmail :)

i am receiving junk in the mail and phone calls as late as 10 p.m. they even call on Sundays, the other day i was so mad. my 6 mo. old had been sick for a week and hadn't slept well in days, then i finally got her to sleep (which means i can sleep too) then a telemarketer called and woke her up, i asked her to remove me from her calling list, she was soooo rude she said i could at least listen to why she called, what i am saying is if you use your real phone it will ring off the hook, and i think they're psychic because they always call at the worst time

Well, first off, it is ILLEGAL in any state for creditors & telemarketers to call after 9pm!
Below is a link for anyone who wants on the DO NOT CALL Registry. You enter your phone # and it puts you in the registry to where Telemarketers CANNOT call you, ANYTIME whatsoever! If they do, they have broken the law and will be penalized & or jail time! Serious stuff as we all are tired of these people invading our homes with their ridiculous and rude calls!

This is why it sickens me that PrivatePhone is terminating its free service! When I go to listen to my messages on PrivatePhone it tells me what time these solicitors call me. I have had some call me at like 5:30am!! And then I have had call after call like every 10 minutes some days!! Imagine if that were my regular home phone! I would have gone mad!

What about using Grand Central? It's good!

I checked out GrandCentral and signed up.  Unfortunately, they are not accepting new members at this time.  Here is the message I received:

Your Reservation Has Been Confirmed

Thank you for your interest in GrandCentral. We will let you know as soon as we open up our service to more users. At that time you will be able to choose the specific phone number that you would like to use. We will make all possible efforts to ensure there are numbers in the area code or city you have selected, but there may be some areas where we won't have coverage. We'll do our best.

The GrandCentral Team

I would suggest that anyone that has private phone at this time, might want to at least reserve a spot at GrandCentral.

yeah...i definitely agree with everyone else..i signed up for privatephone and i haven't received more junk mail at home than usual...so just use privatephone.com and set up a seperate email for the junk email cuz there will be a lot of that..and even using privatephone i dont have that many messages so if you use your own phone and just screen them, you should be fine but if not use privatephone, its 100% free..just dont use it for somethin that requires a confirmation number, then you will need a real number so you can input the confirmation - with those i havent receive any extra calls....its just the schools and insurance ones that call back a lot so use privatephone for those...i dont know...i never answer my phone anyways unless i know the number so i dont really care

I love telemarketers. My Husband and I play with em a little. We will act interested in what they are selling and in the dead of the convo pass the phone back and forth between each other and ask them to repeat them selves LOL My dad and I did that once to one person and they never called back. Also since I have gotten Vonage I Never really get any calls to mess with them any more. The only calls I get now are from people I actually want to hear from. some marketers but the ones I want. I know that was bad to mess with them but hey they called several times before I did.

A little update on the PrivatePhone issue.  Yes, it is being discontinued as of December 15th.

I would suggest everyone now try one of the following:

www.aimphoneline.com - (problem there is local area codes)
www.k7.net - I signed up for this one but unfortunately you don't get to choose an area code, it just assigned me a number.
www.laserphone.com - I signed up for this one too, but it seems to be just a "call forwarding" service, which doesn't help with using my cell phone, nor will it help with the DoNotCall Registry.

Some offers will kick back when you use a number with an area code that is different from your address area.  It happened to me with the AIMPhone - just an FYI.

If anyone has found any other ones, please update us!!

Hi Everyone, I am new on the board. Looks like a busy forum. I can also recommend AIM as a replacement for PrivatePhone. I was searching for a replacement and got that lead. It was very easy to set up, I got a local number, and was able to check my voice mail right through e-mail. You can't record a personal greeting, but that's okay. It is free, free, free! http://www.aim.com/download.adp (http://www.aim.com/download.adp) Click on the link for Free AIM Phoneline.

It's odd you say that cuz I use k7 for all my offers. I wonder if that is why some of them have not credited?? I used my cell phone here in the begining and that is a different areacode then mine too lol. But in fairness a lot of people have cell phones with a different area code from where they actually live.

also check out brring.com   it does ring to your home phone but........ you get paid for the calls! lol also. anyone who calls has to listen to a 10 seconds message before being connected to you, then to your ringtone before you pick up. so most people other then your friends n wahtnot you give the number to hang up since they don't know if you will answer or not. :) you get a 1.00 for each new caller who calls you and then .05 per call from them after that. also you get 1.00 per referrals. so hey. if your gonna have alot of people calling you check this out. i got mine about a month ago, give the number to all my friends and family. i have it linked to my cell, so you don't even have to use your house phone. but in about 4-5 weeks i'm up to 123.10 that i just cashed out tonight to get my check in time for christmas :)    if not for christmas i think i would of let it keep adding up to see just how high it would get lol. well goodluck guys hope this helps at all :0

I use my regular home phone, which I only use for my DSL. The ringer is turned off all the time, but I can't imagine giving out my cell phone number or a phone that I actually use. Telemarketers are relentless.

Yeah, we do tend to get a lot of telemarketers now. =[
Good thing we can shut off the ringer.
