I think they should let the diapers be on the food stamp , formula . its hard for these mom and out there that struggling . I have been there , it can be so hard at time .
-
I would support diapers being on the Food Stamp list only for the first 1 or 2 children. After that, it you're still having kids and you can't afford the diapers, I really don't know what to say!
On the other hand, I think there needs to be a movement back to cloth diapers. I think these plastic things are taking up too much landfill. When are we going to realize the value of our environment and that we are squandering resources for things such as this?
-
It would make more sense to add diapers to WIC, since that is already in place to help new moms purchase baby food and formula.
-
Food stamps and WIC are for food, not disposable diapers. I think formula is allowed on WIC. With a combination of food stamps and WIC, I would think a person could afford disposable diapers. If not, then they should use cloth diapers. I used to use cloth diapers with a plastic or rubber outer "panty" to keep the nasties inside. There's a really cool site that sells all kinds of diapers and covers.

They "sound" expensive but add up the cost of how many disposables you go through in a week and the cloth ones aren't expensive at all since they're reusable.
DIsposable diapers are great but they're terrible for the environment. it takes years for them to disintegrate due to the plastic.
-
No, diapers are not food.
-
I think so. Diapers are a basic need for many whose parents are struggling.
-
I disagree. I don't think that would be a good idea. I would be more likely to agree to put it on WIC than food stamps.
-
You can't even use EBT cards to buy any type of food you want. Most people who do get food assistance also get some type of cash assistance so they should be able to buy diapers and the rest of their child's needs with that
-
Well, you can only buy grocery store food (nothing fresh either), so I don't think diapers fall under that category. However, mothers can apply for additional help to pay for diapers.
-
I think they should be on wic. I think toilet paper should be on food stamps.
-
i think diapers shouldn't be allowed on food stamps because food stamps are for food not for taxable items like diapers. i work as a cashier and formula is allowed and food stamps.
-
I've seen this post many times, but today when I looked at it I envisioned pictures of diapers on the food stamps. Too funny! :D
:fish:

No I do not think diapers should be on food stamps, I think it should be added to the WIC program.
-
WIC is still part of Supplemental Nutrition Program. Diapers absolutely do not belong there either. Not sure why that keeps getting brought up.
-
Diapers on food stamps, no. If you truly cannot afford diapers (which they make off branded ones that are fairly cheap) collect cans to recycle! Carpool with a coworker (if you have a job) explain your situation to your coworker on why you cannot drive that week or day whatever. I think to be a parent you have to stop expecting everything to be handed to you because you don't make enough money. I fully support people on food stamps that truly need them. But I find the amount of 20-30 year old's on food stamps working ONLY part time jobs so they can keep their food stamps is mind boggling. I wish the government would weed out the people who are just lazy, don't want to work too hard ::) & only want free food from the people who really do need it!

Exactly! If you cannot afford them use cloth diapers nothing wrong with that what so ever. A parent will do anything for their child. I remember when we had kids how expensive the baby years were but we both busted our butts. My husband at one point had three jobs, one main job & two side jobs. It's hard but when you don't plan ahead but it is do able!
-
No, I think they need to change the name from food stamps, to fringe benefits......
-
No, food stamps are a good and agriculture benefit, and families with children are also eligible for cash aid if they are in program compliance, so that should be what they use for diapers.
-

Agreed!
-
Of course not, it's for food.
-
Babies need food and after that they need diapers. That's all I know on the subject.
-
No, diapers are not food.
I agree. Then you would have to add Toilet Paper, soap, etc Basic needs for every person not just babies. If you cannot afford disposable diapers, then use cloth. I did for my first child. Yes, you have to change them more frequently instead of letting the pee build up in the super absorbant layer. ;)
-
I don't think diapers should be on food stamps. Now there should be something in place, like vouchers toward diaper purchases or something similar.
-
I dont think diapers should be on food stamps, formula yes, but I think there should be some kind of card that is for mothers or fathers, who could use the card for items for babies only, formula, baby wipes, diapers etc
-
LOL!!!!
everybody bashes the government but wants them to take care of them.
really what has happened to america, if you are going to have children be responsible adults and do something to be able to afford diapers and wipies.
I have three adult children, and my ex and i busted our hump to provide for our children.
this is why i do surveys i dont get foodstamps and i still care for my handicapped son who is 26.
and i still have to buy wipies.
People need to get up off their lazy backsides and provide for their children and stop exspecting a free handout from the government.
Look at it this way --you can afford a laptop or computer and internet--but you cant buy diapers and wipies--wow thats some f'ed up priorities.
why dont we just have the government pay for everything and no responsibility for anything---oh ya that's called communism. And thats proven to have failed.
-
They should just made "food stamps" be "necessity stamps" or something. Diapers are expensive and if you dont make that much, there should be some sort of help available like "necessity stamps".
-
I don't think there should be diapers on food stamps. They might get poop on them and the stores wouldn't accept them.
I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself. This topic still makes me laugh. :silly:
Sorry if I offended anyone. :rose:

I get food stamps but no cash assistance. I do get social security administration money or ssa money monthly.
-
No, you should not be able to buy diapers with food stamps. They're not food, duh. When I worked in day care I bought backup diapers for the babies in my class. I bought store brand diapers from places like Family Dollar, Dollar General, and Walgreens. They worked as well as the name brand diapers used by the parents, and they weren't too expensive. But that was nearly 10 years ago, and everything costs more now. If you can't afford disposable diapers, then using cloth diapers is a good idea, as several people have already pointed out. Disposable diapers are not a necessity; parents managed for centuries without them. All our wallets might benefit from us learning some of the old ways again.
-
For people who require assistance, I think diapers should be included. There are always people who scam the system and I don't care about them. But people who really need help, need diapers.
-
sure why not
-
:o I have to say that while they should be on maybe the WIC program, I would not put them on food stamps because they are not edible!!! I get that they are costly though! :bad: Its been so long since I actually had to buy diapers that I don't even know how much they cost anymore....
-
Interesting little post here, but can you figure out the important parts. I am not pregnant. I will not need diapers soon. And I do not support the gov't giving out diapers via food stamps. This is another sign that there will be hell to pay.
-
WIC maybe, foodstamps no because people would buy diapers who have no babies and then sell them cheap to make money
-
No, food stamps are only for items that aren't prepared foods (cold foods). Like it or not, that's the rules. There's temporary cash assistance available for items like that, should you need them. They'd probably recommend using cloth diapers -- cheaper. Though I know you can also coupon for diapers and save a ton. Good luck!! :)
-
Yeah, I think so. With how often you go through them
-
Well if they did it would help a lot of moms out there who can't afford good diapers for their babies.
-
unless you're already pregnant and have recently suffered a major financial loss, why are you having children if you can't afford diapers? Condoms are literally free. Birth Control is free or at least discounted based on your income at the health department. There is no reason to bring a child into the world that you can't afford. I live below the poverty line and I have made sure to stay on birth control because I cannot afford children. The state is not responsible for paying for kids you decide to bring into the world. That is ridiculous. And if your religion doesn't allow birth control then don't have sex. simple as that.
-
If not on food stamps then they should be part of some find of public assistance that is for sure. I think that is just as important as food.
-
Yes please replace cigarettes or cigars with Diapers anytime...
