Some people have the worst customer service skills. I went to the veggie market yesterday, layed
my groceries down on the counter, the cashier starting ringing them up, never said hello, good bye, or thank you.
I wish i was doing the mystery shopper job because she would get written up for that.
What bad experiences have you had recently?

Contrary to popular belive small talk is not a job requirement..Attitude is more important .. and according to you.. They didn't do anything but ring you up and send you on your way.. So My question is.. Why is that according to you considered bad customer service skills..
Belive it or not working in customer service is not easy and not always cracked up to what you thought it would be.. Not making excuses for them but you have no idea what they dealt with before you.. and you have no idea what is going on in their world..In my opinion.. They did their job.. and at the end of the day.. That's all that matters...

I recall going into a McDonald's and the woman behind the counter was so rude, it was ridiculous. I went to the Welfare Office and the woman behind the counter was so rude, a person waiting to get serviced said, "If you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, you shouldn't come to work with that attitude!" Personally, I believe that people wake up and bring their personal problems to work with them. I would rather be waited on by a person with a nice attitude. :bad: :bad: :bad: :rainbow: :rose:

Some people are having bad days, they might be heartbroken by something, they might have found out some bad news & other things might be weighing heavily on their mind, they might not be feeling well - they might have stayed up all night with their sick child. They probably are nice people & on point most days, but some days it is just hard to be extra fake & friendly. Customer service industry is a hard job, people are not robots & as long as they aren't blatantly rude, then I figure they are just good people having a bad day for some reason. I always go out of my way to be the one that takes the high road & is friendly to them, say thank you & goodbye & to have a nice a day. Being a human being is a two way street, & if you ever have worked in the customer service industry, which I have in my youth, you'd understand - they are not bad people, you just caught them when they are having a bad day or bad moment working minimum wage no doubt.
I have a bad experiences lately calling the cable company, time warner, & speaking to their outsourced customer service representatives who have no clue, I've wasted hours trying to deal with them when they don't understand ip codes & how to find out direct phone numbers, because they can't relate to California is not Virginia because they live in another country. So frustrating.

walmart is always the happiest people :silly:

i generally just have mediocrity, which is fine.
i have had really sad situations though... one was at a gas station where someone was working alone and was obviously very ill but no one would relieve her. she was so sick. i asked if i could call a doc or something and she said if she left she would be fired and started crying. it was so sad. i refuse to go that gas station. i hope she found a better job. and got better.

That's bad. I don't care what your personal experiences are right now....leave them at the door. If you are doing so poorly that you can't do your job properly, maybe you should call in....

I can count more BAD experiences with customer service than GOOD anymore.
My personal favorite is when you have to WAIT to be waited on b/c the cashier is checking their phone!! UGH. What has happened to people anymore???

I know some people have the worst customer service skills and I work with them. Some of the people I work with are very rude and nasty.

Some cashiers are very busy doing their business. It is the reason for which they do not greet you, say 'thank you or did you find everything OK? It is all based on time management and productivity!
-
Geez, do you want her to polish your shoes? Not every retail worker has to greet their customers, though it is courteous. She was probably having a busy day. It doesn't completely count as bad customer service.

The rental manager at Lakeway Realty is a thing from hell , total abuse from her.. the company is slumlords from hell. refuse to do any maintenance and makes tenets do all the cleaning of previous tenants. It's a nightmare.

I have worked in many different jobs that require customer service skills to some degree. I have been on both ends. I have found some people are just rude and miserable people and they want to make everyone around them feel as miserable as they are.
Some customers are a nightmare from the pit of the deepest &*$#. They wear clothes then try to return them and get mad if you cant take them back because of RULES. I know the customer is always suppose to be right, but if customers realized how much they hurt themselves, when they cause the company to lose money. If that rep gets fired behind your complaint, which 9 times out of 10 they won't. The company starts over, by training a new person who knows even less than the other. Customer Service type jobs usually have a high turnover rate because of the demands of Queen Bee Mentality customers. The low pay and stress of the job=employees who may not always be at their best. The company will always find a way to recoup its losses...but the consumer and the employee pays the price. I learned this a long time ago.
I have had cashiers through money on the counter, talk hateful, and worse, but I can't find it in me to let their bad behavior ruin the rest of my day. I shake it off (as Joyce said it's snakebite). Yes, me as a customer may help to pay a very, very, very, very small portion of their salary, along with hundred's of thousands of other customers. But I refuse to make a total fool of myself and tell them...I spend a lot of money in this store and if you didn't feel like working you should have stayed home...you could have at least said hello....the customer is always right......I pay your salary you work for me.
I am a happy person all on my own.. I don't need the cashier to be nice..if she does I truly appreciate it. My shopping trip is less than an hour of my day, I'm not going to let it dictate my entire day. I go to the store already knowing there are going to be people who are mean, rude, and just disagreeable. Unless they have done something really, really bad I try my best not to be petty.
............and yep, you guessed it I work in customer service ;)

I have been in customer service for years and have always greeted the customers whether in person or over the phone. It is nice to be pleasant, although there are a lot of people who are not pleasant. :)

What bad experiences have you had recently?
You can report a bad experience whether you are mystery shopping or not. I recently had a similar experience at a Weigels. The girl was just a butt. I was getting a slushie and they were out of lids so I went over and ask her if she could refill the lids. She walked away and never said a word. I assumed she went to get the lids. She brought them over and filled them up and I said thank you and she kind of grunted. I went to pay for slushie and she still never said a word to me. She sure talked and joked with her friend who was in line in front of me. Some people are just b*tchy and that is all their is to it.

A few months ago, I contacted my company's IT help chat since one of the company's programs that checks all computers connected on their network to be compliant wasn't appearing to work any more. I first waited close to an hour before the chat session was picked up by a help desk rep. The first thing they wrote was for me to give them 5 more minutes (I assumed to tie up some loose issues from their previous call / chat). Since I was busy trying to finish off a different project, I just read the message and went back to the other project without writing anything. About 7 minutes later (I know the timings because f the complaint I later sent), the rep. came back on the session, but just wrote that they were sorry but that they wouldn't be able to help me at that time. At the time I didn't think much of it (I just assumed that maybe the other call they thought would take only another 5 minutes turned out to be more difficult and time consuming, so they just wanted to excuse themselves instead of keeping me waiting for an indefinite period of time). Although that rep. had left the chat session, it appeared that the session was still active (just no one on the other end) so I decided to wait a little longer to see if a different rep. would pick up. After waiting another hour, I finally decided that e-mailing my question may work better than waiting around all day for someone to answer the chat session. So I went back to my ticket to change the preferred communication for a reply from chat session to e-mail. Lo and behold, I saw that my ticket was closed, and that the rep. that had joined the chat earlier had been the one to close it, as being resolved, and the resolution was that since I didn't respond within 5 minutes from initial contact, that my problem must have been solved! Luckily there was a way to re-open a ticket within 24 hours if the supposed resolution didn't work. I furthermore issued another ticket, this time complaining that the rep. told me to wait 5 minutes and then closed the ticket when I didn't respond within those 5 minutes (as I was following what I had been directed to do by waiting). I also included a transcript of the chat session to show that they first said to wait and then closed the ticket shortly after that waiting period had expired.

any customer service that does not help you in anyway or form. a customer service person who ignores you,,,, or does not try to help you. I hate people who see you coming to ask you a question and they take off in the other direction. or they pretend to be on the phone. Or someone who thinks they are better then you and just makes up something to get rid of you.
they should not be in customer service !!!!1

I am a mystery/secret shopper. 99% of my job is just checking on customer service. All of the grocery stores I do the first thing they ask is if the cashier greeted you. Did they make you feel like they were glad you were at the store. Did they ask if you found everything you needed. Did they say thank you. I do 25 different grocery stores, some Mom & Pop and some chains, this is standard for all of them. They don't necessarily lose their job for being a jerk, but they often have to go through re-training. They would have to go through the same training if the complaint comes from a mystery shopper or a paying customer. If you have a choice to go where they are friendly or where they ignore you or are rude, where are you going to spend your money? Management knows...good customer service/relations is worth its weight in gold.

I went into a McDonalds where none of the employees spoke English. Luckily my Spanish was up to par as I ordered Un Grande Desayuno y dos burritos! The young lady was appreciative but had to get the manager to help her figure out the change in American currency. In another incident: I went to a hoighty toighty clothes salon with my wife (nothing under one hundred and fifty dollars) and the clerk stayed on a personal call for the entire twenty five minutes we were in there without ever acknowledging us. My wife found an outfit she liked, had a hard time finding her size, asked me what I thought and I told her that I would constantly be reminded of the lousy service we received every time she wore it. We walked out without buying anything.

I don't know if this fits into customer service but at Walmart today, a lady decided to try on new pants OUTSIDE the changing rooms and the worker there saw her but didn't make her go into a changing room??

A few days ago, I drove to one of the hospitals in our area to pick up a neighbor who was there as a patient and was going to be released. I drove up to the valet parking area since I was unfamiliar with the parking at this hospital to get parking service. I young gal came out with a ticket, took one look at the inside of my car, which is a stick shift, and she told me that she was not able to park my car because she did not know how to drive stick. I was floored! So I asked her what did she want me to do? Her response was to pull up about 10 feet and park right in front. I was even more floored! So that's what I did. I could not believe that a parking attendant was hired (who did the hiring?) that did not know how to drive manual transmission vehicles. Go figure.

In my town the local Wal-Mart Superstore has some of the worst customer service than any other place I know. The big joke is if you have no personally go work at Wal-Mart.
