I think Spongebob can be for everyone. I grew up watching Rocko's Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy. So I think Spongebob is ok for all ages.
-
Personally I think Spongebob is a WASTE OF TIME for everyone.
I understand why some might like it, I myself used to watch it.
BUT, there is NO educational value what so ever!
I even read somewhere that some scientific research was done on it...
and people who watched it actually lost IQ points, or something of the sort.
Basically it makes peoples brains turn to mush.
Thats just my opinion though, I don't let my toddler watch it.

I think it is for anyone who wants to watch it. I love watching it with my 5 yr old granddaughter.
-
I think it's mainly aimed towards kids, but entertaining for all ages. I'm not a big fan, but I know a few older people who are.
-
I'm 27 in May and I still watch Spongebob.
-
I think that it's for older kids

we both watch spongebob and we are 25/31 years of age. we enjoy it.

OK so here is what I have learned about Sponge Bob after watching an episode that I found way to mature for little ones.
1. Sponge Bob was originally created for adults ( like South Park )
2. Sponge Bob was originally supposed to be racy and graffic.
- Mr. Crabbs lives in Bikini Bottoms ( The kids had been watching it for a long time, and I had never really paid attention. One day I was really getting into it with them (uggh shameful I know) and realized wooooo Mr. Crabbs shouldn't live in Bikini Bottoms on a child's cartoon. Well simply put, it's not intended as a child's cartoon, or wasn't in the beginning.) Lesson for me here was to be more careful even when something looks appropriate for children, it might not be. Writers of Sponge Bob, if your target audience has changed, please direct the names and interactions for your NEW audience!! Thanks!

Spongebob Squarepants is a cartoon for kids that has older fans.
-
hmm I think anyone can find it funny. I do and I'm 25 almost 26.
-
Both. I think it has layers- silly stuff for kids, -wit and one liners for adults
-
I thinks it's probably like the Loony Tunes of old.... For the most part, it's for children. However they also know that adults will most likely be around when the kids are watching, so they toss in some more mature humor to entertain the parents too. Sometimes the jokes are pretty mature (as cnalvarez pointed out) but then again it probably would go over the heads of most kids and only the adults would catch on to the joke.

Spongebob was originally meant to be an adult animation, but it's appropriate for all ages of kids, imo.
-
its got a lot of adult humor hidden in the cartoon
-
Unlike many of the children's shows that have adult jokes that go over their heads, Sponge Bob is pretty much a clean, cute, innocent show for kids. However, when parents sit and watch shows with their kids just to be with them, they might find themselves getting addicted to the little square squishy dude.

My 4, 10, and 16 year olds watch it! They all love it! Go figure....
-
I think it is for who ever wants to watch it, but I do not watch it at all.
-
my grandson look at spongebob and i do to sometimes just to see what he is looking at but really it can be for all ages they are really crazy in their their make you laugh
-
It's like the Flintstones....meant for kids, but with lots of adult humor, so the adults don't get bored.

I still watch it sometimes, im 23, Ive watched it since it came out well over 10 years ago (cant believe its been that long), its basically the only cartoon nick plays anymore, its sad that kids cant grow up with the great shows like I did like rugrats, rockos modern life etc...
