Oh it's on Fox News? The one and only news source for unbiased and logical information? No offense, but I don't know how anyone could listen to the first 10 seconds without laughing. Fox News has no right even saying the word "bias" considering the absolutely laughable history of reporting accurate news. This is 'right-wing agenda' as it can get. Yeesh :angry7:

We definitely get you don't like Fox News! In my opinion, however, they are not as biased as some other news stations that are way more liberal at presenting their news. But that's just my opinion...............

You're absolutely right. I'll admit all news stations are slanted in some way, but Fox News repeatedly falls over the cliff and smashes to the cold and hard ground. The 'agenda-disguise' is so assinine that it's usually funny and sad that people can consider it a decent news source. I'd like to call it an opinion, but the fact that the gov't and other major news sources consider it this definately says something is wrong here. It has humongous masses against it even in other countries. Just that 20 second video reeks of right-wing propaganda.

The reason I feel a need to send my kid to private school is so that I can make sure that the things he is being taught is in keeping with my values and beliefs. I feel sorry for people who cannot afford to do so. Don't get me wrong, I do without other things so that he can go there, but it is more of a priority to me than other luxuries that tuition money could buy.

I am an individualized instruction teacher, and my lab offers everything from Science to History to American Literature. I'm familiar enough with our textbooks to assure you that NONE of them espouses "radical Islam." Whoever spreads this nonsense just enjoys stirring up hatred. By the way, I've had several Muslim students from places like Pakistan and Indonesia. Two of the girls wore traditional headscarves and modest attire. All of these students were very nice, hardworking, respectful, RATIONAL young people who did well in their classes. I can only hope that some of their lazy, loudmouthed, inappropriately-dressed American classmates benefitted from their example. And no, none of the Muslim kids tried to blow up his/her underwear!

I went to public school, we'd always pray in the locker room - things like that, no one ever complained. I went to a small school thou so people were really good at respecting each others beliefs.
We did usually have a day or week in humanites or maybe it was social studies where we learned about the various religions, I think they covered Christians, Buddhists, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu - there may have been more but regardless the teachers tried their best to cover them equally, I'm sure that was very hard for them.
This was the same with racial things too, slaves, mexican-american war, the only one they really made sure to elaborate on was the holocaust. :wave:

But completely ignored the genocide of the Indigenous of this continent tho huh?

Possibly because I am older than most who have posted so far, I can say there was a great deal of focus put on the history of the indigenous peoples and tribes when I was in K-12. I would say some of it was due to the greater part of the place I grew up being one of the most Indian populated areas. There were/are many intact mounds, cemeteries, etc. and most of the cities, towns, and villages are directly named from tribal ancestry. I do know that the same curriculum is not taught today though.

Correct me if I am wrong (not that you wouldn't ;)), but I remember the Sand Creek Massacre and another one (can't come up with name right now) being what led up to the Wounded Knee Massacre being fought to counter the extermination policy of the US Government. Again, I have no idea if that is still taught or even in the history curriculum now.

The Los Angeles Community Adult School Individualized Instruction Lab's U.S. History 1 & 2 courses have an excellent text called "The American Nation" by Paul Stuckey. It does a great job of covering ALL of our history, including the the abuse of minority groups. What I especially like about the book is that it presents our country as a work in progress, struggling all the time to realize our ideals of justice and equality. Also, it teaches essential research and critical thinking skills that will help students in their college courses.
