What is everyone's thoughts?
Are you celebrating or crying? :)

i know this is America and land of the free, but those against this bill are really blind. Can they not see that health care bill is allowing the government to look out for us rather than big greedy companies who don't give a damn about the people? i don't know about you guys but I'd rather have the government care for me any day. so i guess im celebrating for it because our world probably has a chance for changing now...

I am undecided ... It is great for those without healthcare and believe me I am happy and rejoicing for those  My son and his family fall into that catagory..... but I fear for those like me and my husband :crybaby2: who are getting a little older and we have good healthcare. I guess we will have to wait and see how it all works out.

Crying. It's too big and does not solve the problem of curbing the cost of healthcare.

I'm for less government no matter how well intentioned. I do not want the government to care for me.

It's getting a little scary, although it's not as bad as it could have been. We are taking too much control out of the people's hands and placing it in the big government's hands. Our country was founded on the premise of being the land of the free and home of the brave. Being free means living the way you want, not how some politician thinks you should live. I dislike how the bill uses the force of the government to make people to purchase health insurance. We shouldn't have to purchase anything we don't want to. If you don't want insurance, then you'll have to take on the risks yourself, including the possibility of having to pay higher amounts for pre-existing conditions (which was the insurance companies way to urge people to purchase insurance while they were healthy to offset the costs when they got older and needed the coverage). We have gotten out of the mindset that we have rights and responsibilities. Our rights include freedom of owning our own personal property. Our responsibility includes living a responsible, healthy lifestyle. But our dissociation between rights and responsibilities caused health "insurance" became less about truly insuring against unforeseen events in a person's health and more of a pre-paid medical billing system. Our car insurance doesn't pay for oil changes, brake-pad replacements, gas, etc. So too should health insurance not cover regular check-ups and non-life threatening ailments (eg wart removal, ankle sprains, common cold, etc). But because we are covering everything, health insurance costs have increased.
The really scary thing will be that because the government has a larger financial stake in our health, they will have a larger say in how we handle our health. Say goodbye  to those juicy rib-eye steaks; the marbled fat, although lending to the taste of this cut of beef, also leads to heart disease, and if the government is paying for heart disease coverage, then we can't allow people to eat it. See-ya bacon, gonna miss ya! Candy and ice cream? Na, diabetes is on the rise... :bs: Don't think that's likely? We've just seen government place a large financial stake in the auto industry as well as in the financial sector. And after doing so, they started dictating how those businesses operate. OK, I may have exaggerated a little for the current health care bill. But our president has stated on numerous occasions that his eventual goal would be a single-payer system, and he is not alone in this desire. Unfortunately this bill is just the first step towards getting that.

i come from socialist country, and i think this is where this is heading with the health bill reform. Also, we are getting penalized for earning money now as the taxes are going to get increased substantially....more taxes, less doctors, more waiting time to get an appointment....fun times are coming :)

Sounds like politicians to me. The system needs to be fixed. They need to go after the big insurance companies making a killing and denying people left and right because they want to make more money instead of helping people live. We should focus more on prevention and living healthier lifestyles. People are eating themselves to death. We won't see what will happens until years from now but I hope it will do something better than it is now.
No one should be afraid to go to to the doctor because it costs to much or it takes 6 months to get an appointment. The best health care I have ever received was when I lived in Taiwan. You can walk into any doctor's office and get seen right then and there no six month waits. People go to the doctor for a cold. Most Americans wait until they are almost on death's door before they will see a doctor because it costs too much. There is something wrong with that picture. Why are we so behind the rest of the word taking care of it's citizens?

I am really glad that the health bill passed. Yes it will take time to sort things out and there are always some negatives. Since the insurance companies have not always done what is good for the people, but instead have chosen to put profits/being greedy first, then I am all for the government in getting involved- in fact, I demand it. Government is becoming more involved because people keep making poor choices or choose to do the wrong thing. Everyone should have health insurance, just like everyone must have auto insurance. We are all tired of paying for other people's health insurance bills, who have no insurance.

Hooray! It's about time.

If thats how you see it, your rather blind. I lived in a country where the government controls healthcare and let me tell you it is terrible. People are taxed up to 70 cents of every dollar and still the system is financially challenged. The government can't keep up with the debt it owes and it increases every day. People are on waiting lists for healthcare, diagnostic scans and treatment for serious diseases. What bothers me the most about the Obama plan is that it forces people to get insurance whether they can afford it or not. Where is the freedom to choose? Where is the freedom period? As you can see the government is gaining more control over the people with every passing day, and soon there will be no democracy. Democracy will be replaced with communisim. Thats the direction the country is going in.

After the narrow victory for the Health car plan I find myself feeling sad for the American people. First, let say I feel strongly that a good health care plan for the American people is and has been long needed. I differ from this health care plan in the way it was reached. The old medical plan has several good points and several very bad points. Instead of reinventing the wheel which this plan will do I would have prefered keeping the good points as a base and putting inplace good fixes for all the none working and corrupt points of the old health care plan. Another point if our congress was truely working to use a sharpe pencil on costs. ALL pork would have been removed when presented. All representatives would have pulled all money's for there districts out of the bill. No buying votes for Louisana Purchases, Nebraska deal, Flordia, and union deals etc. etc. etc. all have a large number of dollars attached to the health care bill. President Obama said on his Fox interview that he wants the Lousiana deal as part of the health care because Huri cain Katrina caused so much damage. Excuse me the federal government has many other agencies that deal with these catatrophies. How come Mississippi didn't get a maching amount of bucks? Didn't Mississippi have a Katrina event to? Everyone needs to remember the costs are going up---if not now in the future. This is just the way it is.
-
Look how corrupt system is before the bill how we going control the corruption when were more then tripling the amount of people involved?
-
I feel like the health care bill is going to do nothing but give the government more power and drag our country deeper in debt. The problem with health care is not only the health insurance companies it is also the health care professionals (doctor's offices, hospitals, etc) and the pharmaceutical companies over charging for services and medications, which in turn causes our health insurance rates to increase. The problem with health care like most things in the US is greed. I do not feel that this health care bill is going to help at all.
-
I fear the worst but am hoping it will go better than I think.
-
I think it sucks how the people who have worked hard their whole life to have good health care or getting screwed over. Plus, you can see how the government is slowly and silently trying to take all the control from the people. I hope that we eventually come to our senses.
-
I think it's definitely HUGE regardless of what side you're on!!...I'm not sure what my thoughts are...it looks pretty good, but I really need to look more into it....I'm amazed at how little of a "majority" the House really needs to pass something though...220-211 is really close..

1. The current state of healthcare in this country is absolutely terrible.
2. Forcing people to buy insurance from the very same insurance companies that have been screwing us is idiotic, without a robust public option.
Something needed to be done, but this bill doesn't go far enough and seems too much like a corporatist handout. At least it's a place to start, though.

Ha, Ha, Ha. Yes the government has done such a good job of looking out for us with Social Security, which is now broke, because ALL the money that they forcebly took from our paychecks ALL those years was supposed to be put into a Social Security Trust Fund, Buttttt the government just couldn't stand to see ALL that money just sitting there. Sooooo they changed the law and borrowed my money ( without my permission ) that they took by force out of my paychecks, and now Social Security is broke and they are now borrowing money from China to cover their thieving a**es to keep Social Security checks coming. What do you think will happen when China calls the notes due and the government can't pay??
Medicare is broke, Medicaide is broke. The US Government is broke. You are probably right. Since they have done such a great job of managing ALL these other programs, they can do a better job of managing your Health Care, BUTTTT I sure don't want them managing mine!!!
Yes there (WAS) some problems with our healthcare system, BUTTTT it (WAS) the best in the world. People used to come here from all over the world for surgeries and other health care problems, because we (WERE) the best on the planet.

I am so ashamed about this. what is going on with this issue. Is is convenient or inconvenient for America?
-
I want to know what took so long-Canada has been doing it forever-only better. I'm still worried about this mandatory insurance coverage. There are a lot of us out here who are not poor enough to get free insurance nor rich enough to buy it,either.we're between a rock and a hard place. I hope there is a happy medium somewhere.
-
Health care? I never worried about having one. ;D
Not everybody can afford it.

Ha ha now that really is funny. Have you ever traveled outside the country?

when was the last time did the govt. do anything that didn't cost more than the private sector they will mess this up like everything else they run the country will be so far in debt that who knows what will happen wake up people and find out what a bill of goods we have been sold.

The US didn't just fall apart overnight, it took years and many Presidents let it destroy itself. When someone finally does something, anything to change the ways and hopefully better our way of living they are attacked. At least we are not being ignored anymore. Is it right that when you are in the Hospital a box of Kleenex, used or not is billed for $12.00 to your Ins.? ONE Tylenol is $16.00. My Son has no Ins. last year he sprained his ankle, we thought it was broken...he was billed $8,249.00...3 hours in the ER and a sprained ankle can be devastating to people without some type of coverage. The Ins. Companies have been milking the system for years and bleeding us try. Something has to change and I believe that this is a good start. Just my opinion. I don't want to upset anyone.

I love how people complain about the greed of the insurance companies while the real culprits of the higher costs is our "savior" the government. Medicare and Medicaid pay, on average, only 80% of the true costs. People that are on these programs (at least on Medicare) are also the ones that have the highest costing treatments (the elderly are now getting diseases that only show up later in one's life, like cancer, Alzheimer's, etc.). Taking both of these ideas together, hospitals and doctors try to recoup their costs by going after the only other party "willing" to pay (the government has the power of the law behind it, so if they say they won't pay anymore, they won't) by overcharging the insurance companies, who in turn charge their customers more. Hence the reason for the $12 box of tissues.
The government also dictates where a person can get insurance from. Instead of being able to select from a national pool, people can only purchase plans within their own state. Having a smaller pool of people means that those in it will have to carry more of the costs. It also creates less competition; competition being some thing where the "greed" of other insurance companies causes them to battle with each other to gain customers and in the process lowers costs. The President and Congress were trying to tout the public option as being that competing factor, but as is seen with Medicare and Medicaid, the government doesn't have to listen to market forces, but rather makes their own dictates. As such, the government becomes an unfair competitor and may lead to other insurance companies having to close up shop, eventually leading to less competition. Furthermore, opening a person's options across all plans in the US means that there would be many private competitors versus only one public option.
The government also gives tax incentives to businesses that buys insurance for their employees. The idea being that businesses will create a large pool of their employees thereby spreading the costs among all of their members. But that leaves out those that are not working -- either because they are disabled, retired, in school, or just plain lazy. If the tax incentives were given to the people instead and allow the people to form their own health care groups across the country, more people would be able to gain access to insurance and the costs should also decrease; instead of having ABC Manufacturing employing 500 workers get one plan, all of the members in FC could develop their own plan. This would also allow people to group themselves by what they want in health insurance as well as their lifestyle choices. For example the people in candyterrius' video may elect to band together with other health-conscious individuals that didn't want cancers to be covered (and so if any did develop cancer, they'd have to pay out of their own pockets or go without treatment) but would rather have alternative therapies covered instead.
So which is the better "sin"? Corporate greed or power-hungry politicians?
